Hummer Fuel Door For a Customized Look

Hummers are all about the bling or more specifically, the biggest and most rugged vehicle on the road. Looking at the original military version, one would never have predicted this development. But, once GM decided to start putting shiny paint on them, it became logical to chrome out all of the accessory bits. Lately, the fuel door has become one of the favorite targets for chrome.

Chrome doors can be bought for almost all late-model pickups and SUVs. The Hummer fuel door comes in chrome from the factory. It is decorated with the hummer emblem, which is based on the wheel design of the military H1's self-inflating tires. This looks nice, and does the job for a lot of folks. But if the truck is really going to look custom, then it can't have the same one as everyone else. Fortunately there are lots of companies out there selling replacement doors.

Replacement doors come in two varieties. One is the chromed plastic door. It has several advantages over the stock door. Being plastic, it cannot corrode. It is also lighter in weight and much cheaper in price. The disadvantage to the plastic Hummer fuel door is that they can't really be locked, plastic is too easy to break. Billet fuel doors are the logical solution to this problem. They can be had in chrome or natural machined finish, with or without a lock. The machined billet look is nice, but is usually accompanied by replacement of most other chrome on the truck with billet replacements. This can be an expensive undertaking; the buyer should give it some thought and look at a few other trucks before proceeding.

Another interesting type of Hummer fuel door is the recessed type. It is not actually a door, but a replacement for the factory door. It is a chrome cover that fills the recess for the fuel cap, accompanied by a sharp-looking chrome fuel cap. The intention here is to give the vehicle a little more off-road street cred, as it is very similar to the fuel cap found on Jeep Wranglers.

Modifying your Hummer, doesn't have to cost an arm and leg. After all, the vehicle is not the most cost efficient vehicle being manufactured today but that is not why you bought one. However, saving money is always a consideration for most people. Customizing the wheels will cost quite a bit but modifying the fuel door is as inexpensive of an option that is available.

Hummer accessories can really add to the look of the vehicle and a Hummer fuel door is an inexpensive addition.
